I come down every year and it's brilliant to see the vintage steam engines come back to life. See you next year!

George Pearson

Great day! It was ever so educational for my children. They particularly liked the miniature steam.

Claire Burton

Really enjoyed the day and I even got to see the yellow Air Ambulance fly overhead.

The first practical steam powered engine was a water pump, which was developed in 1698 by Thomas Savery. Though it was not until 1712 when the first commercially successful steam engine was introduced. The atmospheric engine invented by Thomas Newcomen, paved the way for the Industrial Revolution. In most cases this engine was put to good use pumping water and it worked by using the vacuum from condensing steam in a cylinder.
