Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance Cheque PresentationMonday, 4th August 2008

Today at the Five Bells at Morton a cheque was officially handed to the Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance by Brian. This cheque for £860 was from the proceeds of the Steam Weekend. When the money taken by the air ambulance stall and collection tins were added then the total figure raised due to the steam fair was nearer £1200.
Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance Logo The Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance is a dedicated medical air service which first began operations in Lincolnshire in April 1994.

Based at RAF Waddington, south of Lincoln, and unaffected by road congestion, country roads, heavy vehicles or road works the Helicopter can reach any destination in Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire in 19 minutes.

In England and Wales there are sixteen dedicated Air Ambulance operations flying a total of 22 helicopters and all are reliant upon charitable support. An Air Ambulance provides an important and sometimes vital additional patient care service for our most critically ill and injured patients.

The Duke of RutlandWe had an idea...

In the autumn of 2005 a plan was hatched to stage a one off steam and vintage rally at Morton. The team set about organising something very different within the village, which was also a passion for them, Steam!

Morton? I hear you cry. Well, its a village steeped in the traditions of local agriculture and handily placed right alongside the A15, in the beautiful south western corner of Lincolnshire and also, amazingly enough, the home of most of the team.

The team at first thought they were organising a small event but circumstances took over and eventually the Morton Steam and Vintage Weekend turned into a very large reality.

The event planned to combine Steam, both full size and miniatures, with vintage tractors, commercials, cars and trade stands. Several local events were visited and arms twisted for people with vintage machinery of all kinds to take a chance on a new event in a previously unused venue.

The entry lists were gathered and the venue was re-measured to see if all the promised exhibitors would fit, after some head scratching the organisers were sure that they could squeeze in everyone even.....

A Formula One Grand Prix Transporter and Car

Hog roast and band to keep the exhibitors entertained in the evening

Flying model aircraft

Two large steam engines in full steam

A gathering of local Vintage Tractors (very apt for the farm venue)

Classic Cars from 1904 to the 1960's

An amazing array of stationary engines, all working

A large gathering of miniature steam with their own arena

A display of vintage bicycles

Two spitfires and an unscheduled Lancaster (Ok they didn't require parking spaces)

A traditional fun fair for the children

Trade and craft stands with everything from glass engraving to ancient hand tools (well Victorian and Edwardian)

...... and still have a small space left for last minute arrivals.
